Given all of this, I believe that there are two major things I am hoping to learn in this class, one having to do with students, the other with myself. Because I seldom keep up with the newest technologies, I would like to learn what those are and what sources exist to keep me updated with that so that I may provide my future students with more information than they would be able to acquire otherwise. Secondarily (well, perhaps I should admit to how selfish I am and state that this one is to me, at this moment in time, the more important one), I am hoping that I can come to a new conclusion about the technological dilemma that is a constant part of my life.
I think that this has already begun. That is to say, the questionnaire I just took helped me to better identify what type of student I am, the results of which would have taken me much longer to discover were it not for technology. I was in the 1-3 range for everything except the last category, which informed me that I am a global learner. I think that part of me knew this, but was not able to access the right words to explain my ways of functioning. I think, perhaps, if I am allowed, I would like to share this with the friends I study with, with the hope that it would enhance our ability to learn from and teach each other.
...I feel like I need to now say that I hope I didn't offend anyone by what I said. I am trying very hard to understand my own feelings on technology and writing them out helps me understand better.
When I was in elementary school we had a computer center and a type writer center... I always wanted to play with the type writer! It makes a beautiful noise... not unlike these keyboards right now.
ReplyDeleteI also think that type writers provide more instant gratification... when you spell everything correctly, of course. Besides, the little inkholes that come from type writers make it seriously authentic.
Other than my fascination with outdated technology, I definitely feel the same way about not really knowing how to feel about technology. It's kind of scary, and amazing at the same time, but I don't think I could imagine a world without it completely. I also wish I would do my hair every day. But one step at a time, right?
I completely agree with your feelings about technology. Even though my roommates and I have pretty good knowledge about the new technologies, we (actually last night) were talking about being Amish. Ther is just something so much more personal when we aren't using technology to communicate. Its like technology has stunted our abilities to communicate in person.
ReplyDeleteI like your view on technology. It's definitely a deeper way to think about technology than I originally thought of.
ReplyDeleteIm glad you posted your true, honest feelings about technology. I somewhat agree with you and your feelings toward technology! I would much rather write down my feelings and what I have to say then type them up or send them to someone via email. I would much rather talk face-to-face with someone and have more interpersonal relations versus keeping in contact with someone over a computer! I am not good with technology because I just choose to do things other ways. Althoug, in our growing world today It would be very useful for me to understand and know everything that technology has to offer!
